How to create game assets with AI
Updated October 25, 2026
AI asset generators can fill a game with art quickly. Consistency and licensing are what separate usable assets from a pile of images.
Define a style guide
Fix the palette, resolution, perspective and line style before generating anything, and reuse the same reference images or style settings.
Use the right generator for each asset
Use sprite tools for 2D, 3D generators for models and audio tools for effects and music.
Edit, don't just generate
Clean up edges, fix animation frames and normalise sizes. A short editing pass makes assets look intentional.
Check licences
Read each tool's terms for commercial use and keep a record of where every asset came from.
